Who is excited for Back To School? This is the time where us teachers look for fun and meaningful back to school activity ideas to get our students to feel welcomed in the classroom. It’s an exciting time but can also be a little scary for students. Especially this school year of 2021-2022, since most students have not been in the classroom and surrounded by other students for about a year.
Apart from using Ice Breaker Activities, Back to School Activity Passport is another great way to get students out of their comfort zone and start feeling like they are part of the class. The activities inside of the Back To School Passport promotes socializing between students, getting to know the teacher and completing some necessary classroom activities.
When the student completes an activity, they get a stamp from you! Their goal is to get all the stamps and complete the passport.
Plus, this Back To School Activity Passport is FREE on my TPT store. So be sure to go grab one!
So let’s take a look at how to fold the Activity Passport and how you could use it in your classroom!
How To Fold the Activity Passport
#1: Print It Correctly!
First off, you have to print the passport. But WAIT! Don’t just click print! Your passport won’t come out in the correct size for you to fold it and turn it into a little booklet.
You have to select “Fit To Paper” before printing. This will ensure that it will print to the correct size for us to fold correctly.
#2: Let’s Fold this!
Alrighty! Now fold this hotdog style!
Unfold it and fold it hamburger style.
Fold this again hotdog style, so from right to left or left to right (NOT top to bottom).
Again, make sure you fold it from right to left, then left to right to make sure you make the creases in the paper.
#3: Cutting and Assembling the Passport
Now that you have created all the creases in the paper, you are one step closer!
Unfold the passport and go back to the original hamburger style.
Notice the dash line in the center? That’s where you will cut! You are only cutting until the end of the dash line, not all the way.
Now, you will end up with a hole in the middle like the picture below.
Fold the paper down hotdog style and push both sides into the center. Fold the top page in and you will have yourself a mini Back To School Passport!
Push both sides toward each other.
Fold the top in and…
Viola!
How To Use the Back To School Activity Passport:
There are many ways to use this activity passport in your classroom. First of all, make an agreement and set up a time for your students to complete the passport and when they can ask you to stamp the passport.
Will they be allowed to complete some of the activities in class? If so, when?
Can they complete some of the activities during recess?
It’s also important for you to decide if you are going to make this a mandatory assignment or only reward students that complete this. I usually make this type of fun activity a challenge and reward students who complete it. This does not take away the fun from the assignment. I also allocate time during the day (during our morning meeting or before dismissal) for students who completed the activity to present this if they choose.
They get to tell their classmates what they have learned from the activity and their reflection. This also encourages other students to complete the activity.
Setting a deadline for completion is also another important factor. The first 2 to 3 weeks of school is a great length of time to allow students to feel comfortable and work up the courage to complete some of the activities.
This is a great way to promote building a positive classroom culture and getting students to get to know their classmates. I hope that you will enjoy using the Back To School Passport in your classroom and have an amazing back to school this school year.
